Colour Clash? – First Posted: Wednesday, June 22, 2011

Good Evening,

I have the second of my little framed scenes for you today and this time it’s a circle. I wouldn’t normally put such a vibrant pink and orange together but as the pink patterned paper is covered with orange flowers and leaves I thought what the hell and went with it. I followed a sketch by Deconstructing Jen for my layout, I paper pieced the kite and coloured the rest with copics. I’m finding that copics are not only awesome but do take a bit of working at to get the hang of, I’m starting to get some successful blending going on and although its not as easy to do as I imagined the results are so satisfying! I cut out some letters on my Craftrobo/Silhouette for my sentiment but rather liked the negative stencil effect it left behind so I opted to use that instead and backed it with some of the pink paper.

Framed Scenery – First Posted: Tuesday, June 21, 2011

Hiyah!

I hope you are having a good day today. Life’s good here in the birdhouse, I got back on my exercise bike today after taking a week off due to a sore knee so I feel all accomplished and I’m very much looking forward to the second episode of Luther tonight, it’s the little things! lol. Now all I need is to figure out what to have for tea tonight, maybe roasted Mediterranean veg with something hmm, aaanyway…

I’ve been planning some little digi scenes framed by circles or squares so that whatever your chosen cutting systems are they should be quick and easy to cut out and add to your project. Not everyone has Spellbinders but most of us have some kind of paper trimmer and circle cutting system so for these at least I’ll stick to these 2 shapes. You may see a new section has popped up for these in the digi stamp section so you know you can expect a few of these. I have a hot air balloon scene for you today, I hope you like it.

I followed a sketch by Card Patterns for my card today, Stamp Somethings challenge was to use pretty papers and Craft your passion has a paper piecing challenge this week which was too tempting to ignore, I don’t often think to paper piece but I always love the results.

One Card, Two Looks! – First Posted: Thursday, June 16, 2011

Good Morning!

I don’t know if you are the same as me but I find male cards quite tricky to do and there are a lot of blokes in my family, typical lol, so I thought I’d go for a 3D type card for Fathers Day this year and chose a swing card sometimes called flip flop cards. I was finding it a bit difficult to make my swing card as I use a guillotine rather than a slide type paper cutter so it was the perfect excuse to make a cut file, like I need one! hehe. So I have a swing card digital cut file for you today complete with 2 matting layers as I have used in my cards here, It produces a square card and all you need to do is size the card height to your desired size (ensuring to keep everything in proportion).

I thought I would show you both the cards I made which look dramatically different even though they use the exact same cut file and matting layers, I used different colour ways and minimal embellishments to tailor the cards to each recipient. One of our Dads likes light & airy colours and a touch of glitter, the other loves heavy metal and motorbikes but I bet you worked that out already, lol.

swing card front

I layered pearlised card stars cut in coordinating colours to embellish the first card and used silver snaps for the second to look like studs or rivets (brads would achieve the same effect).

swing card back

Both back panels have a glitter card base, I used a bold font for the first card as I planned to insert these little stars and backed with 2 colours of glitter card, I used an Iron Maiden type font for the second which came in 2 layers which I backed with satin silver card.
