Design Team Time and an unexpected link

Hello!

I had a bit of a surprise today when I found that there is a mention of my coffin box template with a link on the Italian Vanity Fair website today, it was most unexpected!

Also, it is my turn over at Team KnK again, so if you’d like to see what I’ve been making this time and to grab the freebie head on over and check it out :)

Parent Pop-Up Inserts & Making Metallics Feminine

Hiyah!

Do you remember when I attempted to make glitter masculine? Well today I tried to make a vintage metallic effect feminine, I’m not sure if I quite pulled it off, you can be the judge :)

First though is today’s freebie, I have some new pop-up inserts for cards to your parents, you have Mum, Mom and Dad. Look at that I even remembered the American spelling of mum this time, I must be learning! I will, no doubt, add some other family members in time to cover the most commonly used ones so keep an eye out for those.

Pic.1. Cut your insert and remove all of the interior pieces.

Pic.2. Carefully fold along all of the perforated (score) lines, they are all valley folds except for the line directly above the writing which is a mountain fold. This is a little bit fiddly but once you’ve folded your lines you’re home free.

Pic.3. I added double sided tape around the edge of the card and around the pop-up opening too.

Pic.4. Continue to add your tape around the edge of the card and the pop-up opening ensuring that the tape doesn’t overlap the pop-up element.

Pic.5. To add your insert, place it inside your card base then remove the tape on just one side at a time.

Pic.6. Decorate your card front.

The metallic effect: I used black card and some metallic brass craft paint for the whole of my card front, after I cut and formed my pieces in the black card I used a scrap of fabric to swipe the paint over each piece to highlight the raised areas. A similar effect can achieved using a gilding wax.

The elements: I used the flower background from my last post to create an embossed background just as I detailed in this post, it’s dead easy. I added some large snaps to the corners and created a plaque like element from a spellbinders labels 13 die. The flowers are the 5 petaled flower from Flowers 3 and the leaves are from Branches 1. I formed the flowers and leaves with an embossing stylus and a bone folder on a soft mat, the under side of a mouse mat is fine for this.

Flower Background by request

Good Evening!

I have a new set of background files for you today, this time it is my flower design. I first created this design for the flower pennant and used it for the 3 flower envelopes too, quite a few requests followed asking for it to be made into a background panel so here it is! I hope it will be a welcome addition to your cut file collections :)

Card Base: I cut my flower background fractionally smaller than the front of my card in the same colour and glued into place to imitate an embossed look except with a sharper/crisper edge. Instead of placing my sentiment onto my card front I decided to add it inside the card and create a window in the front, I cut the opening with a spellbinders die and used 2 dies to cut a narrow frame to add a neat finish to the edge of the circle window.

Flowers: I used the flower and leaf cut file for my vellum flowers, I ran an embossing stylus over the back of the petals to add some shape then popped some sparkles into the middles. I wanted my sparkles to be a deeper shade of purple so I dabbed them with the chisel end of a copic marker and they took the colour fantastically so I’ll definitely do that again!
