<p>Hello!</p>
<p>Today I am posting a project on my blog that I previously posted on the KnK Design Team blog in case you haven’t seen it and also so the files will be included into my archives for the future.</p>
<p><span style="color: #663399;">I have a family wedding approaching so today I have a wedding card to share with you, I chose a wedding cake design and although it is an all white card I picked card and paper with lots of shine and texture. I have included the cut files I created for today’s card at the end of the post if you would like to re-create it :)<br />
</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #663399;">The picture below shows all of the pieces you will need to cut with your chosen cutting <span style="color: #663399;">machine</span>, I cut mine with <a href="http://knkusa.com/shop/make-the-cut/" target="_blank"><span style="color: #663399;">Make the Cut</span></a> and my <a href="http://knkusa.com/?shopp_product=knk-zing" target="_blank"><span style="color: #663399;">Zing:</span></a></span></p>
<p><span style="color: #663399;">- 1 sheet of A4/letter sized card scored down the middle</span><br />
<span style="color: #663399;">- 1 copy of swirly frame 9 &amp; backing layer (cut file below) sized to fit the folded A4/letter card base</span><br />
<span style="color: #663399;">- 1 rectangle panel and backing layer to fit inside the swirly frame</span><br />
<span style="color: #663399;">- 1 copy of the wedding cake and stand (cut file below)</span><br />
<span style="color: #663399;">- Several copies of the flower and leaf (cut file below)</span></p>
<p><a href="http://www.birdscards.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/weddingcakestandcard1.jpg" rel="lightbox[4202]" title="A White Wedding"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-4203" alt="weddingcake&amp;standcard1" src="http://www.birdscards.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/weddingcakestandcard1-300x187.jpg" width="300" height="187" /></a></p>
<p><span style="color: #663399;">I cut my flowers and leaves from vellum to make them look delicate, I shaped each petal with an embossing stylus on a soft mat which encourages them to curl upwards:</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #663399;"><a href="http://www.birdscards.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/weddingcakestandcard2.jpg" rel="lightbox[4202]" title="A White Wedding"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-4204" alt="weddingcake&amp;standcard2" src="http://www.birdscards.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/weddingcakestandcard2-300x229.jpg" width="300" height="229" /></a></span></p>
<p><span style="color: #663399;">Once I have shaped the petals I run the stylus around the center of the flower and it magically cups the flower:</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #663399;"><a href="http://www.birdscards.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/weddingcakestandcard3.jpg" rel="lightbox[4202]" title="A White Wedding"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-4205" alt="weddingcake&amp;standcard3" src="http://www.birdscards.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/weddingcakestandcard3-300x206.jpg" width="300" height="206" /></a></span></p>
<p><span style="color: #663399;">To finish my flowers, I tuck one of the flower layers inside another with a little wet glue then pop a flat backed pearl in the middle. I ran my embossing stylus down the center of each leaf and glued them behind some of my flowers:</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #663399;"><a href="http://www.birdscards.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/weddingcakestandcard4.jpg" rel="lightbox[4202]" title="A White Wedding"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-4206" alt="weddingcake&amp;standcard4" src="http://www.birdscards.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/weddingcakestandcard4-300x232.jpg" width="300" height="232" /></a></span></p>
<p><span style="color: #663399;">I stuck my swirly frame to it’s backing layer with some tape in the middle and some wet glue at the edges. For the top layer of my rectangle panel I chose a patterned vellum, I attached it to its backing layer with a small piece of double sided tape being careful to place it behind where the cake will sit then I stitched the 2 layers together:</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #663399;"><a href="http://www.birdscards.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/weddingcakestandcard5.jpg" rel="lightbox[4202]" title="A White Wedding"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-4207" alt="weddingcake&amp;standcard5" src="http://www.birdscards.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/weddingcakestandcard5-300x226.jpg" width="300" height="226" /></a></span></p>
<p><span style="color: #663399;">I folded my card base and glued all of my wedding cake pieces together, I chose some shimmery card to represent the ribbon sections:</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #663399;"><a href="http://www.birdscards.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/weddingcakestandcard6.jpg" rel="lightbox[4202]" title="A White Wedding"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-4208" alt="weddingcake&amp;standcard6" src="http://www.birdscards.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/weddingcakestandcard6-300x211.jpg" width="300" height="211" /></a></span></p>
<p><span style="color: #663399;">As all of my elements were prepared, my card came together in moments. I attached my 2 panels to the card base with lots of 3d foam tape then I attached my cake directly to the rectangle panel as the flowers give a lot of dimension. Here’s how my cards looks when it is finished:</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #663399;"><a href="http://www.birdscards.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/weddingcakestandcard7.jpg" rel="lightbox[4202]" title="A White Wedding"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-4209" alt="weddingcake&amp;standcard7" src="http://www.birdscards.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/weddingcakestandcard7-267x300.jpg" width="267" height="300" /></a></span></p>
<p><span style="color: #663399;">Although this is an all white card, I hope this close up shows how using different textures, translucency and shimmer can add a great deal of interest to a project.</span></p>
<p><a href="http://www.birdscards.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/weddingcakestandcard8.jpg" rel="lightbox[4202]" title="A White Wedding"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-4210" alt="weddingcake&amp;standcard8" src="http://www.birdscards.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/weddingcakestandcard8-300x260.jpg" width="300" height="260" /></a></p>

<p>Good Afternoon!</p>
<p>So, I went on a trip last week&#8230;down my stairs! We have lived in flats for so long that having stairs again has taken a bit of getting used to. I can&#8217;t have been watching my footing when I ran for the postman at the door, it was like a scene from Bambi with arms and legs going in all sorts of directions, I&#8217;m such a numpty! I&#8217;ve had some good news this morning when my x-ray results came back, nothing&#8217;s broken woohoo! I&#8217;ve still got a lovely limp so I&#8217;ll have some follow up checks on my knee but the bruises are disappearing and the other niggles are improving so it looks like I may have escaped anything too serious&#8230;phew!</p>
<p>Anyhoo onto today&#8217;s freebie, I have a Lace-y Border for you to accompany the <a href="http://www.birdscards.com/lacey-square/" target="_blank">Lace-y Frames</a> from my last post and if you&#8217;re used to my cut files I bet you can guess the last part of the set which is coming soon ;)</p>
<p>As with the frames, I recommend a sharp-ish blade, a sticky-ish mat and some thin-ish card for more the intricate cut files.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.birdscards.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/hilaceybordercard.jpg" rel="lightbox[4196]" title="Hi Lace-y Border"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-4197" alt="hi lacey border card" src="http://www.birdscards.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/hilaceybordercard-279x300.jpg" width="279" height="300" /></a></p>

<p>Hiyah!</p>
<p>I have a set of Lace-y Squares or Frames for you today, there is a version with a deeper edge and one with a shallower edge and both come as a matting layer and a frame. They took a bit of time to get them just the way I wanted them but I&#8217;m happy with the result and I hope you like them too :)</p>
<p>I picked the square with the shallower edge for my card and as these are quite intricate designs I made sure I had a fairly new blade and used my new favourite card stock Cutmates. It is quite thin card which is perfect for getting good cuts but it has a lovely soft texture which gives your cuts an expensive looking finish. I used the Prima Divine A4 pad for my card, it has a page that is made up of small square images, I simply stitched along the lines between the images to create my quilt-like background layer, it also has a page of triangles which I cut along to make my banner, easy peasy :)</p>
<p><a href="http://www.birdscards.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/laceybannercard.jpg" rel="lightbox[4186]" title="Lacey Square"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-4191" alt="lacey banner card" src="http://www.birdscards.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/laceybannercard-300x283.jpg" width="300" height="283" /></a></p>

<p>Good Afternoon!</p>
<p>As soon as I made the <a href="http://www.birdscards.com/backgrounds-10/" target="_blank">checker plate background</a> I knew an embossed version would really bring the design to life and wanted to see if I could use my background files for embossing. Of course this method can be used with any <a href="http://www.birdscards.com/free-digital-cut-files/backgrounds/" target="_blank">background pattern</a> which is awesome but what&#8217;s even better is that it also means that we can save some money on embossing folders :)</p>
<p>Pic 1: I cut the checker plate background at 8 x 8 inches to have a larger pattern which I thought might emboss easier, as the card I used is so thin I cut 4 copies then glued them all together ensuring to line up the pattern as exact as possible. If you were using thicker cardstock you would probably only need 2 layers of card.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.birdscards.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/embossedcard1.jpg" rel="lightbox[4170]" title="How to emboss with background files"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-4171" alt="embossed card 1" src="http://www.birdscards.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/embossedcard1-300x258.jpg" width="300" height="258" /></a></p>
<p>Pic 2: I took one of the cutting plates from my big shot, I laid it on top of my cut panel and made a mark each side where it needs to be cut to fit through the big shot. I cut mine with my guillotine but you could also use a ruler and a craft knife.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.birdscards.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/embossedcard2.jpg" rel="lightbox[4170]" title="How to emboss with background files"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-4172" alt="embossed card 2" src="http://www.birdscards.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/embossedcard2-300x226.jpg" width="300" height="226" /></a></p>
<p>Pic 3: When you make your sandwich, the card you wish to emboss needs to be between your cut pattern and an embossing mat, I&#8217;ve used the spellbinders junior rubber mat for my big shot.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.birdscards.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/embossedcard3.jpg" rel="lightbox[4170]" title="How to emboss with background files"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-4173" alt="embossed card 3" src="http://www.birdscards.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/embossedcard3-300x236.jpg" width="300" height="236" /></a></p>
<p>Pic 4: I embossed some silver satin card to try to achieve a realistic result, here&#8217;s how it looks after it has been run through the big shot on tab 1 (you can add a shim if you need a little more pressure):</p>
<p><a href="http://www.birdscards.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/embossedcard4.jpg" rel="lightbox[4170]" title="How to emboss with background files"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-4174" alt="embossed card 4" src="http://www.birdscards.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/embossedcard4-300x206.jpg" width="300" height="206" /></a></p>
<p>Pic 5: I was so impressed with the result that I also cut some letters then ran those through the big shot and embossed them in the same way, they looked just as though they had been snipped out of an aluminum sheet! Some large silver brads or snaps finish off the look on my simple but very masculine card:</p>
<p><a href="http://www.birdscards.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/embossedcard5.jpg" rel="lightbox[4170]" title="How to emboss with background files"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-4175" alt="embossed card 5" src="http://www.birdscards.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/embossedcard5-300x269.jpg" width="300" height="269" /></a></p>
<p>My cut pattern is sturdy enough to keep and use again which will save me from having to cut it each time I wish to emboss, I&#8217;m now going to make a version for each of my background patterns so they will be on hand whenever I need them. I just love it that I have another use for my cut files and I can save money at the same time :)</p>

<p>Hi Guys!</p>
<p>I have a new background set for you today and as promised I have a fathers day sentiment square, the backgrounds are a checker plate design which I thought would be perfect for any of your masculine cards or scrapbook pages. I hope you like this design as much as I do :)</p>
<p>To make my card look as much like real checker plate as I could, I cut the card base from some medium grey coloured card and lined it with some lighter grey card, I did the same for my sentiment panel then added some grey brads to each corner before adding it to my card with 3d foam pads.</p>
