Snowflake Suspension Card
Good Afternoon!
The weather has taken a bit of a Wintry turn here and I’ve caught the dreaded lurgy that’s going around so I’m staying in and keeping warm til it passes. I’m planning to start filming some of my card making again, I was doing it before by moving my craft table to the correct place each time but I’ve ordered a new table and I’ll have a go at setting it all up again later tonight. I love to watch video tutorials myself and find it so much easier to pick up ideas or learn new techniques that way so I’m looking forward to being able to do that again :)
Ok, so what do I have for today? New Snowflake sets!! I made 2 of these last year and I bet I’ll keep adding to them year on year as I love snowflake shapes. This year I have a set which I gave an ice crystal feel and 2 of the sets I designed to be embellished with gems so they have lots of circles within them. My fella said that they look a bit like molecular structures and I have to agree but they look much more like snowflakes once the gems have been added, honest ;)
I chose to try a suspension card today and took the colour inspiration from The Shabby Tea Room‘s Pastel Christmas challenge. I cut my card base to 5 inch square so I cut one of the scallop loop circles to 4 inches to give a reasonable border around it then I picked a nestabilities circle to match the inside of the scallop loop circle and made a circle in the center of the card base and my patterned paper. I attached the scallop loop circle to my patterned paper and stitched around the edges then stretched some clear invisible thread (any clear, white thread or fishing line etc would be great too) across the circle opening and stuck down with some strong tape. I added some seam binding to my patterned paper layer and stuck down to the card base to ‘sandwich’ the thread between the layer and card base. I cut 2 snowflakes of the same size from snowflake set 5 and glued either side of the thread, again ‘sandwiching’ the thread between the 2 of them. Once it was dry, I attached self adhesive gems to all of the circles on both sides of the snowflake. The combination of having very fine thread and the added weight of the gems makes the snowflake spin when you blow it, I just know the children in my family would love these, looks like I’m going to have to make quiet a few :)
Can you spot the thread?
Here are your cut files, formats included are ai, dxf, GSD, pdf, studio & svg:
