Random Stuff

a few pics

Hi Guys!

I know it’s been a little quiet here while I’ve been moving house so thanks for your patience, normal service will resume shortly. Apart from all of the other house related stuff that’s needed sorting, I have been getting in my craftroom as much as possible to get it unpacked and sorted so here’s a few pictures (apologies for the quality) to show you what we’ve been up to. I was lucky enough to have my Mum and Dad here for the first 10 days to help with the move so much of the work in the photos is thanks to them.

Here is the window side of the room:

This is how the empty room looked after the carpet had been fitted

This was just some of my craft stash that came from the moving truck

I now have wall to wall worktops to give me as much usable surface area as possible, a blind at the window and even a lampshade, it looks much more like a craftroom now :)

craftroom4

We will be putting up shelves on both sides of the window in the coming weeks so this picture shows how it looks so far.

Here is the shorter side of the room:

Again, this is how the empty room looked after the carpet had been fitted

I have gone for a wall to wall worktop again to make the most of the space I have. I also have a couple of wall to wall shelves, it may be a small room but I plan to get as much storage space as possible.

craftroom5

Here is how this side of the room looks now. I have given the shelves a couple of coats of paint and started to fill them with my most used papers and pens, tools etc then I tucked several filing cabinets under the worktop to house everything from ribbons to paper scraps.

I have dreamed of this room for so long and it’s actually coming together better than I’d ever hoped or had pictured in my mind and just know that I’ll be a happy little crafter here :)

Cupid Suspension Card – KNK Design Team Project

Hi Guys!

Today I am sharing my first post as part of the Team KNK Design Team in case you didn’t see it at the time. My project was first posted in January and was a card for Valentines Day but the heart card base can also be used for other occasions such as Anniversaries or Engagements by replacing the cupid with a different image or smaller heart to spin in the middle.

As we have a couple of weeks until Valentines Day I thought I’d sneak in with a Valentines card just in time. I have a Suspension card for you today, a suspension card sounds complicated but it is simply where an element of your card is suspended by thread which allows it to spin, it’s an easy way to create a lot of impact.

If you wish to make today’s card all you will need is your chosen KNK machine along with some card, thread and adhesive as I have included the cut files I made for this project for you to download at the end of this post.

I used Make the Cut to cut one copy of the heart card along with 2 copies of the cupid (ensuring that he fits inside the heart card opening). If you are using single sided paper or textured card you will need to use the mirror function for one of your cupids. All of the pieces you need for this project are shown in the picture below.

Cupid Suspension Card 1

To assemble your card, add some thread to the front of the card base, down the center of the heart opening. Using invisible sewing thread or fishing line can be a great choice as it is difficult to see once the card is finished but any thread will be just fine. Using a strong adhesive tape is recommended here, I have used a red liner type.

Cupid Suspension Card 2

Once you have added your thread you can add the front layer to your card which will hide your adhesive. At this stage I also added my heart (cut from glitter card) to the inside of my card base, it will fit just inside the heart opening and show through when the card is closed.

Now we need to assemble our little cupids. I’d advise attaching the hair and wings with glue then adding the extra body piece and arm with 3d foam pads or glue dots to add some dimension. The bow and arrow is glued to the back of each completed cupid.

Cupid Suspension Card 4

Cover one of your cupids with adhesive tape then open up your card and lay him under the thread.

Cupid Suspension Card 5

Lay the other cupid over the top of the first to sandwich the thread between the two of them and you are done! This is how your card will look when it is closed.

Cupid Suspension Card 6

When your card stands open your cupid will spin and you can aim him towards the heart inside the card if you like ;)

Here’s how the card looks straight on when it’s open.

Mum / Mom Shaped Card

Good Morning!

It was Mothers Day here in the UK yesterday and today I have the card I gave to my Mum for you, I couldn’t share it any sooner as it would have been seen but it is also suitable for a Birthday card if Mothers Day was yesterday for you too. I remembered to add a ‘Mom’ version this time too in case that applies to you :)

I used the file in 3 slightly different ways to make 3 different cards as I couldn’t decide which one I would like the most so I made them all and decided which one I wanted to give to my Mum afterwards.

mumcard1

Card 1: I cut the card base in black then cut the front layer in white and glued it directly to the front of the card. I cut a white square just smaller than the card size for the inside back panel to help the front stand out.

mumcard2

Card 2: I chose some card which had a different finish on either side, it has a shimmer effect on one side and is completely matt and ensured that I cut the card so the shimmer side would be shown on the outside of the card. To create this card I lined up the front layer over the card base in my cutting software (MTC) then removed the outer most edge of the front layer leaving the cut out pieces on the card base itself.

Card 3: I cut the card base and 2 copies of the front layer in white. I glued pieces of coloured vellum behind one of the front layers then attached the other front layer to sandwich the vellum between the 2 layers. I added some lace and ribbon to the card then popped the vellum layer onto the card base with 3d foam pads.

I chose card 3 for my Mum and it went down well. We did notice that the card needs to be open quite far for it to stand up without tipping over as the bottom edge of the card base could benefit from being a little wider. I’m always learning new things while I design my cut files so I will have to bear this in mind when I attempt a card like this again.
